About Nourish Medical
What is Nourish Medical?
Nourish Medical is an embedded medical provider consultation designed to support nutrition therapy when additional clinical assessment or recommendations are helpful
Nutrition remains the foundation of care at Nourish. Most patient progress is driven through consistent, relationship-based work with their dietitian. As patients move through their nutrition journey, questions may arise at the intersection of nutrition and medical care, such as interpreting lab patterns, understanding symptoms, or clarifying how conditions or medications interact with nutrition goals.
Nourish Medical was created to better support patients during challenging moments by enabling RDs to refer them to a Nourish medical provider within the same care ecosystem. This collaboration adds clinical perspective that deepens understanding and supports more informed nutrition decisions, without fragmenting care or shifting ownership away from nutrition therapy.
Rather than requiring patients to navigate multiple systems or seek answers independently, Nourish Medical integrates medical insight alongside ongoing nutrition care. The goal is not to accelerate care or introduce urgency, but to promote clarity, alignment, and confidence for both patients and providers.
About the Nourish Medical physician
Nourish Medical is led by Dr. Ajay Haryani, a board-certified Internal Medicine physician with clinical expertise in cardiometabolic health, obesity, chronic disease management, and multidisciplinary primary care.
Ajay completed his residency training at UCSF Medical Center and medical school at Northwestern University. He has worked closely with Nourish since 2024 and has been deeply involved in shaping our care model, outcomes framework, and labs program.
His role within Nourish Medical is to support and extend nutrition-led care by providing medical recommendations when it is helpful - particularly around labs, symptoms, medications, and diagnostic questions - while remaining aligned with Nourish’s nutrition-first philosophy and collaborative approach to care.
Nourish Medical will expand to include additional medical providers over time, all aligned to the same care standards and collaborative model.
When a Nourish Medical consult may be helpful
Nourish Medical may be appropriate when a patient would benefit from additional medical perspective alongside their nutrition care. Common examples include:
Lab review & diagnosis discussion to better understand patterns relevant to nutrition planning
Targeted symptom review (such as fatigue, GI concerns, dizziness, or hair loss) that may be affecting adherence or quality of life
Chronic disease management for chronic conditions like diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, or NAFLD as they relate to nutrition goals
Complex-care consults for patients with multiple conditions, unclear diagnosis, and/or stalled progress
Medication review for side effects, drug–nutrient interactions, or metabolic response
General consultation or help determining whether additional medical follow-up or specialty care would be useful
At this time, prescribing medications or ordering additional labs (beyond Nourish’s basic cardiometabolic panel) are not areas that we can currently support
These visits are not intended to replace ongoing care with a primary care provider, but to complement and inform the nutrition work already in progress.
How Nourish Medical fits into care
Nourish Medical is designed to complement nutrition therapy, not replace it. RD-led nutrition therapy continues to be the foundation of care throughout the patient journey and long-term patient relationship, and medical input is added intentionally when it supports better understanding or alignment.
Patients are never required to see a medical provider at Nourish.
