Initial Licensing Requirements

On October 30, 2024, IDFPR launched CORE, a new online system for professionals to apply for licensure in Illinois.

Application and Fees

To apply for a new license, submit a completed application along with the fee of $100.

You must also submit with your application:

  • Proof of a current, valid Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

Step by Step Application Guide

  1. To apply online: Please create an account and upload all documents through the online portal.

  2. Download the Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist – Acceptance of Examination/Endorsement of Licensure application.

      1. Certification of Licensure

      2. Certification of Education

      3. Official transcript from a baccalaureate or post baccalaureate program in an acceptable major course of study

      4. Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist Academic Criteria (if you are applying on the basis of a similar degree program)

      5. Dietitian Nutritionists Educated Outside of the United States or one of its Territories

      6. VE-DNU: Verification of Employment / Experience

      7. Proof of passage of the examination

      8. In lieu of documents 2-7, applicants may submit a copy of current registration or certification as one of the following

        • Certified Clinical Nutritionist

        • Certified Nutrition Specialist

        • Diplomate of the American Clinical Board of Nutrition or

        • Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian nutritionist

  3. Enclose a fee of $100, payable via check or money order to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation

  4. Send everything (or have them sent) to Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Attn: Division of Professional Regulation, P.O. Box 7007, Springfield, IL 62791.

Step by Step Application Guide

  • Go to the Illinois Dept. of Financial & Professional Regulation website

  • Your Illinois License as a Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) must be renewed every two years online, at the current cost of $100 (payable via credit card). You should receive a license renewal notice about a month before your license expires. You must complete 30 hours of continuing professional education (CPE) during each two –year period.
